Among many other cool pets/animal friends, I used to have some very interesting pigeon beards. The best thing about them was to watch their very different flying patterns. They all would leave our roof and come back after flying, sometime they will stay a day or two until they come back. It’s very interesting to have birds as pets, kite flying can fully compensate the pleasure on a nice sunny day with pigeons flying. In Pakistan, summer brings people on roofs to not only sleep during nights but also have great fun during the day time. I used to have one pigeon that was ‘Langra’ he had no tail, a broken arm, but he was always so excited to fly. I found him hanging with my group on pigeons one day, he ate with them and decided to stay with them :). So this pegion used to roll in the air, because he did not have a tail for sometime. My friends used to laugh so much on him, I used to feel sorry.
I had a few couples of eye candy sort of breads, some racing bread and the one who fly higher than usual bread. There are some fascinating birds to watch in Pakistan, here’s a list of some. In cities we have a what we call ‘Cheel’ The black kite (Milvus migrans) is a medium-sized bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors. It is thought to be the world’s most abundant species of Accipitridae, although some populations have experienced dramatic declines or fluctuations. Wiki. So Cheel can snatch a pigeon easily but they keep eyes on loot more often than hunting. Sometime you will see a Cheel descent from sky to snatch a dead animal on ground. Their wings are tucked in when they dive, and when they take off from ground, you see that beautiful wings with a huge wingspan. Having a tamed eagle or Black Kite is fun, I have seen them hunting for owners or just going for a nice spin during evenings. I can totally see myself having one eagle friend :). But This video is interesting to know a few things, it’s actually not a myth how pigeons find their way home but the video is cool.
